I had a friend who taught me something, he's a very disagreeable person.
He took my personality test and he was like the most disagreeable person in ten thousand, so he's a rough character he looks like, a pirate.

well corporations used to hire him to go in and clean up when things had got messy so he would start at the bottom of the company and he said he would ferret out people who were taking all the credit when anything went right and then distributing all the blame when anything went wrong and stealing people's ideas and not doing their job.
I talked to him one day I had to deal with some issues in my lab I had students who were under-performing and the higher performing students who were doing their job were getting demoralized because of that and so I had to do something about it and I really don't like firing people.
I was talking to my friend about firing people I said I really can't stand it how do you manage it because you fired hundreds of people he said I really like it and I thought oh well I've never heard anyone say that before.
And he said yeah I go into these companies and I find these people who are exploiting everyone around them and making life miserable for everyone and trying to gain credit where no credit is due and being  narcissistic and manipulative and I ferret them out and I stop them and

it's just fine !

एक दिन एक लड़के ने अपने पिता से पूछा कि, "पिताजी मेरे जीवन का मूल्य क्या है?"


पिता ने जवाब देने के बजाय अपने बेटे को पास में पड़े एक संदूक से एक चमकता हुआ पत्थर दिया और कहा कि वह इस पत्थर को पास ही के बाज़ार में लेकर जाए। अगर कोई कीमत पूछता है तो केवल उन्हें दो उंगलियाँ दिखा देना और कुछ भी ना कहना। बस इस पत्थर को लेकर वापिस आ जाना।


लड़का उस पत्थर को लेकर बाज़ार गया। एक महिला ने उस लड़के से पूछा, "यह पत्थर कितने का है? बहुत सुंदर है। मैं इसे अपने बगीचे में लगाना चाहती हूँ।"


लड़के ने कुछ नहीं कहा और दो उंगलियाँ ऊपर उठा दी और महिला ने कहा, "200 रुपये? मैं इसे खरीदना चाहती हूँ।" यह सुनकर वह लड़का पत्थर लेकर घर गया और अपने पिता से कहा, "एक महिला इस पत्थर को 200 रुपये में खरीदना चाहती थी।"


पिता ने फिर कहा, "बेटा, मैं चाहता हूँ कि अब तुम इस पत्थर को एक संग्रहालय में लेकर जाओ, अगर कोई इसे खरीदना चाहता है तो एक शब्द भी न कहना और बस दो उंगलियाँ दिखा देना।"


लड़का उस पत्थर को लेकर संग्रहालय गया और वहाँ के मालिक को उसे दिखाया। पत्थर देखकर वे बोले, "ये तो बहुत सुंदर और विलक्षण है, मे इसे खरीदना चाहता हूँ।" लड़के ने एक शब्द भी नहीं कहा और बस दो उँगलियाँ ऊपर कर दी और आदमी ने कहा, "2000 रुपये, मैं यह कीमत देने के लिए तैयार हूँ।"


यह सुनकर लड़का चौंक गया और दौड़ता हुआ घर आया और अपने पिता से कहा कि "पिताजी, एक आदमी इस पत्थर को 2000 रुपये में खरीदना चाहता है।"


उसके पिता ने फिर कहा, "अब तुम आभूषण की दुकान पर जाओ और जौहरी को यह पत्थर दिखाओ और अगर वह इसे खरीदने को कहे तो तुम एक शब्द भी मत कहना और बस दो उंगलियाँ दिखा देना।"


जौहरी ने पत्थर को एक लेंस के नीचे रख कर देखकर आश्चर्य से पूछा, "इसकी कीमत क्या है?" उस लड़के ने फिर से अपनी दोनों उँगलियाँ ऊपर कर दीं। जौहरी ने कहा, "2 लाख रुपये! ठीक है मैं इस पत्थर को दो लाख रुपये में खरीदने के लिए तैयार हूँ।" लड़के ने कुछ भी नहीं कहा और दौड़ता हुआ अपने पिता के पास पहुँचा।


लड़के को कुछ भी समझ नहीं आ रहा था लेकिन वह बिना कुछ कहे अपने पिता की आज्ञा का पालन कर रहा था। उसने पिता से कहा, "जौहरी 2 लाख रुपये में इस पत्थर को खरीदना चाहते हैं।"


पिता ने कहा, "अब आखिरी बार आप इस पत्थर को लेकर वहाँ जाओ जहाँ बेश कीमती हीरे मिलते हों और इस पत्थर को उस दुकान के मालिक को दिखाना और बस वही करना जो सब जगह किया।"


लड़का फिर से उस पत्थर को लेकर उस दुकान पर पहुँचा जहाँ पर कीमती हीरे, पत्थर मिलते थे। उसने मालिक को पत्थर दिखाया। जब विक्रेता ने उस पत्थर को देखा, तो एक पल ठहर से गये, फिर उन्होंने एक लाल कपड़ा बिछाया और उस पर पत्थर रख दिया। फिर वह पत्थर के चारों ओर चक्कर लगाते हुए नीचे झुक गये और उस पत्थर को अपने सिर से लगाया और उस लड़के से पूछा, "तुम यह अनमोल हीरा कहाँ से लाए? मैं अपना सब कुछ बेचने के बाद भी इस बेशकीमती हीरे को नहीं खरीद पाऊँगा। मैं तुमसे इसकी कीमत क्या पूंछू!"


स्तब्ध और भ्रमित, लड़का पिता के पास लौट आया और उसे बताया कि क्या हुआ था।


उसके पिता ने कहा, " बेटा क्या तुम अब अपने जीवन का मूल्य जान पाये?"


बेटा पूरी तरह से खामोश हो गया। तब पिता ने कहा, "इससे कोई फर्क नहीं पड़ता कि हम कहाँ से आए हैं ...हम कहाँ पैदा हुए थे ... हमारी त्वचा का रंग क्या है... हम कितने पैसे कमाते हैं। यह मायने रखता है कि हम अपने जीवन में अपने आप को कहाँ रखते हैं, हमारे आसपास किस तरह के लोग हैं और हम अपने जीवन को कैसे आगे बढ़ाते है। हो सकता है कि हम अपना पूरा जीवन यह सोचकर बिता दें कि इस दुनिया में हमारे जीवन का कोई मूल्य नहीं है। हो सकता है कि हम अपने जीवन में ऐसे लोगों से घिरे रहें जिनके जीवन में हमारा कोई मूल्य न हो। लेकिन हर किसी के अंदर एक हीरा छुपा होता है। हम उन लोगों को अपने जीवन में चुन सकते है जो हमारे अंदर के छुपे हीरे को पहचानते हो। हम अपने आप को एक छोटे से बाज़ार में भी देख सकते हैं, जहाँ हमारी कीमती शायद 200 रुपये की हो, या फिर एक एसी जगह भी जहाँ हम अनमोल हो!"


अंत में पिता ने कहा, "यह तुम्हारे जीने का नजरिया ही बदल देगा। भगवान की नजर में तुम बहुत कीमती हो, स्वयं का आदर करो। तुम अनमोल हो, कोई तुम्हारी जगह नहीं ले सकता!"

A common misconception about the role of a manager is that it is a 'driver' role.

I used to think that too. I thought I would be in the driver's seat, leading from the front. Hey, I've led several projects, so of course I'll be a good driver. I'll drive smoothly. I'll drive fast. I'll drive everyone to success. It'll be thrilling, exhilarating.

Manager is not a driver, bur rather a shotgun role. And that’s fulfilling too. Just do it for the right reasons.

Lastly, just like a seat in a car, it’s just a role. Feel free to switch seats if you get bored.
