The idea is very interesting..
The only thing missing according to me was that the damping would work for vibrations that are produced only along the axis of connecting rod.

For vibrations perpendicular to the axis of the rod there isn't much damping.
May be mounting the setup on four more rods that are perpendicular to this entire setup should do better job theoretically and to generate a counter force.. may be repelling magnetic pole on each side.
